The food scene is very interesting, not only the restaurants are great and diverse but the street food is fantastic. You can enjoy authentic Vietnamese specialties with Hanoi Beer for less than U$2 in the little street stalls. We learned this is one of the best places to eat like the locals do!
The open-air markets are an experience apart - beside selling a lot of weird food - water snakes, dog meat, live chickens, dried seafood - the food is handled without any special care. The mixture of strong sights and scents sometimes requires a strong stomach : )
