It took us two days on this slow boat to go from Chiang Khon, Northern Thailand, to Luang Prabang, in Lao. Even though the views along the Mekong River are very rewarding this was one of the longest and most exhausting border crossing experiences we ever had. Basically the trip consists of 6-7 hours per day in the boat and a overnight sleep in a small village called Pak Beng. We did not mind sleeping on the bench of the boat (or on its floor), so I would say the boat trip added a few interesting stories to the journey :)
